OI Foundation of Canada

OI Foundation

Earl Pollock previously presented this article in February’s issue of the district bulletin, however as donations are not even coming close to matching past year’s donations I felt repeating what our Foundations, Optimist International Foundation in the US, and the Optimist International Foundation of Canada do for us would be beneficial. Different taxation laws in our two countries necessitate the two foundations.

Optimist International Foundation is an integral part of our great organization. Without the foundation our dues would be a minimum of $5.00 per member higher. During the year 2004-2005 your foundation gave optimist International $511,428.

  • $282,950 for scholarships
  • $139,448 for Childhood Cancer
  • $76,275 for JOOI
  • $10,000 for "The Optimist"
  • $2,755 for the International Diplomat Program
Refer to the last issue of The Optimist for an excellent article on Optimist International Foundation.

Our Pacific Northwest District, one of three International Districts in OI, and therefore we are responsible for both Optimist International Foundation, for our American clubs, and Optimist International Foundation of Canada, for our Canadian clubs. Different taxation laws in each country necessitate the two foundations. We in the Pacific Northwest have always been generous in the past and I’m sure this year will be a banner year for Governor Dick and our foundations.

OIF and OIFC have several programs to which donations may be channelled:

Dime-A-Day Presidents Club
Outsourcing or Pass Through Executive Club
Print and Plate Program William H. Harrison Society

Dime-A-Day - an easy program to in which to participate. Just donate $36.50 to OIF and with just this amount we can go a long way to meeting our financial commitments to Childhood Cancer and other programs. If you make a $40.00 donation I will give you a beautiful medallion with a nice shiny dime in the middle of the medallion. You’ll never be without a dime.

Pass Through Programs - usually for capital programs. Must have the approval of OIF or OIFC before commencing. Also requires a complete accounting of all funds. Does allow clubs to issue receipts to donors.

Print and Plate program - Through 2006 $250 annually will qualify for a plate, which will be shipped directly to donor. $500 annually qualifies for a print, which will be presented at a quarterly meeting.

Presidents Club - Application required. Three ways to participate - a $250 gift one time - qualifies for a plate. $250 through monthly payments - $250 through automatic bank monthly withdrawals. I would encourage members of this club to renew their membership for 2006 if you have not done so as yet. Also I would like to encourage others who have the means to join this club.

Executive’s Club - at least $1000 annually. Members receive a plaque on their first year membership and a plate to add to their plaque.

William H. Harrison Society - named after first OI President. Requires $10000 over lifetime plus a minimum of $1000 annually to maintain membership.

Other programs such as Katrina flood relief for New Orleans area, special endowments, computer cartridge recycle, and Childhood Cancer outside OI’s program.

We can use more club participation in the Foundations. We have only about a 30% of our clubs making donations. Even a donation of $100.00 per club would be most beneficial. Have your club examine their participation. Every little bit helps.

Club Foundation Representative

As you are probably aware, Rocky Jackson is our District Foundation Representative. One of his goals is to have a Foundation Representative in each club in the district. If your club does not have one and you would like to know what is involved you can call Rocky at (208)888-2111 or send email.

If you would like to let him know who your Club Foundation Representative is just complete the form below. The information will be sent directly to him.
